The core difference: intent vs discovery
Google Ads shows your ad to people who are actively searching for what you sell. Someone typing "AC repair Vaishali" has a problem today. That's demand capture.
Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) show your ad to people based on who they are and what they're interested in, while they scroll. They weren't looking for you, but they may want what you offer. That's demand creation.
When Google Ads usually works better
Start with Google if people already search for what you offer:
- Urgent or need-based services: repairs, clinics, legal, pest control, packers and movers
- Services people already know they need and compare before buying
- Local businesses where "near me" searches are common
- B2B services where buyers research on Google
When Meta Ads usually works better
Start with Meta if your product sells on looks, emotion or a new idea:
- Visual products: fashion, jewellery, home décor, interiors, food
- New launches and offers people don't know to search for yet
- Real estate projects and education admissions with clear audiences
- Building a brand and retargeting people who visited your website
Comparing lead quality
Search leads often have higher intent because the person asked for the service. Meta leads can come in larger numbers at a lower cost, but more of them may be early-stage. Instant forms on Meta are convenient, but adding a qualifying question or sending people to a WhatsApp chat often improves quality.
That's why the right metric isn't cost per lead alone. Track how many leads from each platform turn into customers.
Using both together
The strongest setups often use both. Meta introduces your business to new people; some of them later search your name or service on Google, where a search ad or a strong Google Business Profile catches them. Retargeting on Meta then brings back website visitors who didn't enquire the first time.
How to split a starting budget
If you can only run one channel, start where your customers already are: Google for need-based services, Meta for visual or new products. Once tracking shows what a customer costs on that channel, test the other with a smaller share and compare cost per customer, not just cost per lead.
